What are you getting rid of?
State rules to know
Free-day allowance
Landfills with a state-approved free-day policy (for example Mercer and Wood counties) let West Virginia residents with ID dispose of up to 516 pounds of household waste free once a month; freon appliances and tires usually carry a fee. Official rule ↗
Bulky items and tires from home
Under Public Service Commission rules, every licensed trash hauler must offer monthly bulky-goods pickup (appliances, furniture, TVs, bicycles, off-rim car and pickup tires, and items over 3 feet or 50 pounds) to its customers, so many residents can skip the trip. Official rule ↗
State assessment fees
Posted disposal rates at WV landfills and transfer stations are the base rate plus state assessment fees; the state publishes the totals for each operational facility. Official rule ↗
No permanent household hazardous waste sites were confirmed on official pages; Monongalia County's recycling page says hazardous waste collection is by occasional events (check with local utility or authority).
Before you go
Can anyone use these facilities?
12 listed facilities are confirmed open to the public. Others may limit access by residency or customer type. Check the individual access rules.
How much does a dump run cost?
Compare the listed minimum charges and item fees. A missing price means call to confirm, and an accepted item may still carry the normal load fee.
