Plan your drop-off

Dumps & landfills in Oregon

Oregon runs disposal through county programs, the Portland-area Metro agency, and private haulers, so rules and fees change a lot by county. Most sites take household trash from the public for a fee by weight or volume, and several rural county sites are open only 1 to 4 days a week. Large private landfills are listed but not detailed, and the rest of the state needs a second pass.

What are you getting rid of?

State rules to know

Electronics recycling

Oregon's electronics recycling law bars disposing of computers, monitors and TVs as trash; the E-Cycles program takes them free at collection sites, with a daily limit at some sites (7 items at Metro and Marion County stations). Official rule ↗

Refrigerant appliances

Appliances that hold refrigerant must have the refrigerant recovered before disposal, so transfer stations charge a fee for them (for example $25 in Marion and Lane counties, $30 at Metro). Official rule ↗

Asbestos in construction debris

Construction and demolition loads at transfer stations may need asbestos testing and documentation, and asbestos-containing material is not accepted at most public sites. Official rule ↗

Metro runs free household hazardous waste drop-offs at Metro South (Oregon City) and Metro Central (Portland) for Portland-area residents. Marion County has an HHW facility at the Salem-Keizer site, Deschutes County at Knott Landfill (Fri-Sat), and Baker County holds an HHW day on the first Wednesday of the month. Elsewhere, call the county.

Can anyone use these facilities?

35 listed facilities are confirmed open to the public. Others may limit access by residency or customer type. Check the individual access rules.

How much does a dump run cost?

Compare the listed minimum charges and item fees. A missing price means call to confirm, and an accepted item may still carry the normal load fee.
