State rules to know
Where waste must go
Household waste not disposed of on your own property must go to a facility permitted by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Official rule ↗
Disposal on your own land
State law lets an owner dispose of their own household waste on their own property only if the waste is not from business activity and causes no nuisance, ordinance violation or hazard to health or the environment. Official rule ↗
Burning
Open burning is generally prohibited. The usual exceptions are yard brush burned on the property where it was generated, and household trash burned where generated when no collection and disposal service is reasonably available. Official rule ↗
Oklahoma City (1621 S Portland Ave) and Tulsa (4502 S Galveston Ave) run permanent household hazardous waste centers for their residents; surrounding suburbs generally use them by voucher or fee. Most other Oklahoma communities rely on periodic collection events; call your city or county.
