Dumps & landfills in Ohio

Ohio disposal is run through 52 county or multi-county solid waste management districts, so rules, hours and fees change from one county to the next. This first pass covers 58 facilities from official district, county and operator pages, with the strongest coverage in Franklin (Columbus), Hamilton, Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Wood and the Rumpke service area. Many large counties (for example Summit, Lucas, Montgomery, Butler and Mahoning) still need a second pass.

State rules to know

Scrap tires

Ohio landfills may not accept whole or shredded scrap tires (limited exceptions for licensed processors and approved beneficial use). Some county landfills still sell tire disposal through a licensed processor; check with the site. Official rule ↗

Yard waste

Municipal solid waste landfills may not accept source-separated yard waste (exceptions: storm-damage emergencies with approval, loads refused by a registered compost facility, tree trunks and stumps). Take yard waste to a compost yard. Official rule ↗

Liquids and hazardous waste

Landfills may not accept bulk liquids, hazardous waste, PCB waste or infectious waste; household-size liquid containers are not counted as bulk liquids. Official rule ↗

State disposal fee

Ohio adds a state fee of $4.75 per ton to solid waste disposal, shown as a line item in county and transfer-station tipping fees. Official rule ↗

Ohio has no statewide HHW program; each district decides. Franklin County (SWACO, Columbus) runs a free permanent resident drop-off, Lorain County runs a permanent collection center with a waiver form, Warren County holds a free annual event (next March 27, 2027), and Cuyahoga County's center is closed to the public in favor of city-run collections. Always check the district site first.
