Plan your drop-off

Dumps & landfills in Mississippi

Most Mississippi counties run curbside trash service through a contractor (often Waste Management) and offer a small rubbish site or transfer station for items like furniture, appliances and construction debris. Rubbish sites are state-permitted Class I or II sites that cannot take household garbage or whole tires. Many county sites are free to county residents with a tag or ID, and hours and fees are mostly on county pages or by phone.

State rules to know

Tires

Mississippi retailers must take back used tires equal to the number of new tires sold, and any disposal fee cannot exceed actual cost. Hauling 50 or more tires, or any amount for pay, needs an MDEQ hauler ID. Official rule ↗

Rubbish sites

State Class I rubbish sites take construction debris, brick, concrete, vegetation, furniture and appliances with motors removed. They may not take household garbage, food waste, refrigerators, whole tires, batteries, paint, liquids or hazardous waste. Official rule ↗

Class II sites

Class II rubbish sites take only natural vegetation and brick, mortar, concrete, stone and asphalt. Furniture, construction debris, appliances and tires are prohibited. Official rule ↗

Mississippi has no permanent household hazardous waste drop-off network found on official pages. Jackson County sends hazardous waste to municipal amnesty days, and DeSoto County runs periodic collection days; check your county.
