State rules to know

Waste tires

Kentucky regulates waste tires: retailers, transporters and accumulators must register and post a bond. The state funds free county tire collection events on a rotating schedule, so ask your county before paying a landfill tire fee. Official rule ↗

Household electronics

Household electronics are not banned from landfills in Kentucky, but many counties offer free electronics recycling, so check before throwing them in the trash. Official rule ↗

Environmental remediation fee

Transfer stations and landfills add a state environmental remediation fee (KRS 224.43-500), shown as $1.75 minimum per ton at Daviess County sites. Expect it on top of the posted gate rate. Official rule ↗

Lexington holds household hazardous waste collection events only. Louisville has a permanent HHW drop-off (not verified from an official page). Boone County has an HHW page. Call your county solid waste office for dates.
