Plan your drop-off

Dumps & landfills in Florida

Florida counties run most public landfills, transfer stations and drop-off centers, usually as self-haul sites that charge by the ton or by the load. Most counties limit use to their own residents, so bring a photo ID or a bill that shows your address. Hours and fees vary a lot by county. Check the county page before you go. Several large counties (Broward, Brevard, Lake, Lee, Leon, Marion, Sarasota and others) could not be read for this edition, so those sites are listed with name and address only.

State rules to know

Whole tires cannot go in a landfill

Florida law bars putting whole waste tires in a landfill as final disposal. Tires must be cut into small enough pieces, or sent to a permitted tire processor or collection center. This is why most Florida sites take tires only with a fee, a per-visit limit, or at a specific location. Official rule ↗

Tires may only be disposed of at permitted facilities

It is unlawful to dispose of waste tires anywhere except a permitted solid waste management facility. Do not leave tires at unpermitted sites or roadsides. Official rule ↗

Yard trash is restricted at lined landfills

Under Florida's solid waste statute, yard trash is generally kept out of lined Class I landfills unless the landfill collects its gas and puts it to beneficial use. Many counties therefore ask you to bring yard waste separately, and charge a lower per-ton rate for it. Official rule ↗

Most Florida counties run a free household hazardous waste drop-off for residents (paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, used oil, batteries). Examples: Alachua, Pinellas, Seminole and Volusia list free HHW service. Businesses are usually turned away. Call ahead for hours.

How much does a dump run cost?

Compare the listed minimum charges and item fees. A missing price means call to confirm, and an accepted item may still carry the normal load fee.
