Plan your drop-off

Dumps & landfills in Alabama

Alabama residents mostly dump at county or city landfills, authority-run transfer stations and a few county drop-off sites, and large private operators (WM, Republic, Waste Pro, GFL) run many of the rest. Public landfills usually charge a small flat fee for car or pickup loads and a per-ton rate for bigger loads; several counties hold free landfill days. Tires, liquids and hazardous waste are commonly refused at the gate.

State rules to know

Illegal dumping and tires

It is not permissible to dispose of regulated solid waste (household trash, furniture, construction debris, scrap tires) anywhere other than a permitted landfill, and storing more than 100 scrap tires on a property needs ADEM approval. Official rule ↗

Yard waste, brick and concrete

Vegetative waste (stumps, leaves, branches) and unpainted concrete and brick are not regulated by ADEM, so they can be disposed of on your own property without a permit. Official rule ↗

Open burning

Open burning of regulated solid waste is not permissible without ADEM approval. Official rule ↗

Permanent household hazardous waste drop-offs found so far: the Huntsville/Madison County authority facility (weekdays) and Baldwin County's three CHaRM centers, which charge small per-item fees. Other counties' HHW options were not confirmed.
